a week agoI live locally and come here on occasion. You know where you go to a place and it is very good, then ok and then this time it was rubbish. That’s Colombo Social. The roti was diabolical. Flat, dry and hard. The antithesis of the iconic bread. I assume it is cooked before hand and kept in a warm oven. Terrible. The home cooked roti from a pack of 10 in the Aldi freezer beats this every day of the week. $5 each. Didn’t eat all of ours. Understaffed. After we finished our meal a guy glided past our table. All finished? Yes, thanks. Then he was gone. After a lengthy wait I went to the payment desk and asked for the bill. His boss came with the payment terminal. Punched in the numbers and left. I paid. We departed with no farewell. Oh well. Today’s Colombo Social is like the Chinese whispers version of the restaurant that it was 5 years ago. Each year someone whispers: this is who we are and what we do. Not the same but close each time the whisper goes down the line. By the fifth Chinese whisper it has no semblance to the original idea. All that was inspired and thrilling has drained away. 1 curry, 1 Dahl, 1 entree, 2 roti, 1 rice, 2 wines = $113. Won’t be back. Theres too much on Enmore Rd that is better.

a week agoFull flavoured Sri Lankan food, excellent service, and comfortable atmosphere. More lively during busy hours but noise levels are mostly moderate. Would highly recommend for spice lovers.
